Guinea pig breeds
American
American guinea pigs have short smooth hair and they come in lots of different colours.
Their short hair makes them easy to look after.
Texels
Texel guinea pigs have thick curly hair and that makes it harder to look after.
Skinny pigs
Skinny pigs are almost hairless and when they go out and it's a hot day, give them a sheltered place and put some suncream on them.
Abyssinian
These type of guinea pigs are easy to spot because of their swirls and curls. Bobby is an Abyssinian guinea pig!
Shelties
Shelties, or Silkies, have long soft hair that swipes back so they don't get hair in their face. They have to be brushed and trimmed regulalry.
Rex
Rex guinea pigs have thick wolly hair and their ears droop.
Teddy
A Teddy guinea pigs have thick hair so it makes them look all cuddly and snuggly. That's why they're called Teddy guinea pigs.
Peruvian
Peruvian are one of the oldest breeds. Their long hair grows in their faces and it drops down so you can't see their feet. They need grooming regularly.
